Details: I am testing the waters on CL to see what sort of market there is for my 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300SD. I am the third owner. It has been my project car and daily driver for the past 4 years, it was originally my plan to restore it and convert it to run on vegetable oil. However, the supply of vegetable oil that we have been running our trucks on the past 5 years has slowed down, and so now I´m looking to sell it in order to finance an old BMW 2002. It is by no means a perfect collectors car, but it has been a very reliable, comfortable, and fuel efficient car for me. Here´s a list of work that has been done to it:Front end rebuild: replaced tie rods, and bushings (done at Prestige auto in Salem)brand new radiator and belts (done at Prestige auto in Salem)5 new glow plugsReplaced dashboard: the old one was cracked, and the wood was broken and falling offNew Blaupunkt front speakers New JBL back speakers: I replaced the rear deck in order to fit 6.5´ speakers inNew window plastic slides (the original w126 slides were two a piece design and broke very often)Upgraded 15´ rims from the 2nd generation w126 Brand new rubber all aroundPaint job 2 years ago (it has a few nicks and small scratches from everyday use but no rust)New hood-liner New battery Things that it needs to be perfect (I will do these myself within the next month if it doesn´t sell):Replace the power front seats for the less problematic hinged seats from the euro model. I have them in my garage right now, and I´m having the covers replaced.Replace all the window and heating switches. I have a box full of them in my garage that will come with the purchaseReplace the ripped rear seats. I have the new ones in my garage. Replace the window slide in the passengers front door. Replace the antenna motor (I have an HD radio in it right now so the antenna doesn´t really affect the radio reception)Replace the hood star that someone ripped off (it´s in the mail now)Fix the instrument cluster (Or just buy a new one with similar miles)Transmission tune upAlignmentReplace brake padsThe odometer reads 164,xxx miles. Details: This 1978 Mercedes 280CE has been babied for the last couple years since I have owned it. Its pillarless, with sun roof and power everything an unusual find. Very clean for the year and low miles (120,XXX) for its age and a mercedes. Its not gonna win any drag races but great for touring or a long trip to the coast, and even gets good gas mileage for a V6. If you have a young driver it makes a great first car, not enough power to get them in trouble, great insurance and its built solid, practically a tank!!! You really have to see it to appreciate it. The stereo has been updated with a CD player. I have a set of 4 snow tires for it as well and have taken it to the mountain quite a few times to go boarding and it does well getting up there. Details: We have a very nice little 300D. It runs super smooth, starts up instantly (This morning we woke up to snow and it hadn´t been started in three days and it started up on the first turn of the key immediately). It has amazing power for a non turbo, unbelievable really. For a while I was convinced someone had snuck a miniature turbo into this thing because It is so strong. You can hold 70 mph on just about any hill you want.. It will top out the speedometer given enough room (but I do not endorse the activity). It´s got some new parts, doesn´t need anything major except some parts to make the heater work again. Transmission works. Shifts into reverse instantly. Tires will are passable. Paint is decent, but clear coat is cracking on one of the fenders. With a little detailing it will look like a million bucks. It´s super straight. The interior is clean, one small seam on the drivers seat could be restitched. It´s got a lot of miles on the odometer and the odometer doesn´t work, Judging by the fact that the engine has barely any blow by at all and is strong I wouldn´t doubt this car could easily go another 20 years without a problem. This is a great little car. Tags are good.
