Details: Up for sale is a beautiful European made 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 S Sedan. This Benz has been garage kept and is extremely clean for it´s age. It was my fathers and now is time to let her go. The exterior is in immaculate shape with a tiny bit of rust under the doors (see images). The original wood work is in great shape with a small amount of wood coming up in the corners of the dashboard. The leather interior is flawless except for one tiny 1″ rip in the back seat and 2″ discoloring on the back seat. Stereo works. Air conditioning does not. All the doors and windows work fine. I tried to reinstall a door latch on the passenger side door yet the door still sticks out maybe 1/4 of an inch. Does not leak. Original carpeting in great condition except for a small patch in the front passanger side. This is a straight 6 cylinder with a 2.8 liter engine. Two new carburetors have been installed. Brakes work perfectly. Transmission shifts flawlessly. The lights need to be replaced behind the gages because they don´t light up at night. All the exterior lights work perfectly. I´ve driven the car almost 200 miles in the last two weeks to make sure everything is in perfect and reliable condition. I WOULD DRIVE THIS CAR CROSS COUNTRY no problem. All the belts are tight without cracks. all the fluid levels are stable and topped off. New spark plugs. Radio works! Wheels are in like new condition with signature hub caps. All gages are functioning properly. Again this car drives true, smooth and straight. It is in beautiful Condition. A few minor nicks on exterior. Original Paint. Title is clear. 91000 ORIGINAL MILES. I drove the 1983 on heated wvo system for six months, but I only drive 1-200 miles/month, so a high mpg subaru and clean hands makes sense with my new life style. Mercedes WVO Enthusiasts will know that this 617 engine is the best for running on waste grease. Here´s the ad from the 1983 that runs. Below is the ad for the 1982 WVO parts car that has a brand new set of snow tires on it.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~If you know Mercedes Diesels and the W123 chassis, you know that a well maintained specimen can run 500K miles; and once you drive a Merc. diesel, you´ll always drive one. .Well- this is a well maintained car; reason for selling is I got a newer Mercedes Diesel W124 model. Maintenance was done by myself , or an indy Mercedes diesel only mechanic. Car has 275K miles.I have owned this about 10 years; used as a DD; always garaged, always starts right away even in winter; still using it. But if you are looking for a reliable, well maintained diesel Mercedes for your daily driver, you´ll drive this one for a long time.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~1983 Mercedes-Benz 300DT, 3.0L Inline 5 Turbo Diesel, Automatic, new set snow tires. This benz has a custom WVO conversion system that wasbuilt with the best parts one can buy. Over $2500 invested in the WVO system alone. I have the entire system completely documentedas well as the original maintenance records since new. WVO fuel tank was $500 alone. A new battery and all new glow plugs and glow plug relay were just installed. There is an extra set of tires and rims that go with the car (one tire is bad). When the WVO system was installed, all new fuel lines with the new stlye primer bulb were installed. Last year new front and rear brake pads were installedand new rotors on the front brakes. Still needs new rear brake rotors although car stops fine as is, just makes a slight squeal in rear brakes. Also flushed the coolant and changed the transmission fluid. There have been many other one-off parts installed over the years as well. Mostly everythingon this benz is functional, including the sunroof and cruise control (rare). The tachometer works intermittently and the AC needs to be charged.The previous owner did a complete overhaul on the AC but I believe the seal needs replacing as the freon leaked out. Heat pumps out hot air evenon low. This car cruises nicely at 75+ mp yet a little slow off the line as most all old benz´s are. The care averages 30 miles per gallon. The only realissue is that it could use a good compound/wax job or new paint, particularly on the hood where the paint has gotten dull. Iwas never too concerned about the paint but anyone who buys it can certainly take care of it and make it look 100%. There are 2 very small rust spotsat the bottom of the doors and one over a wheel. The odometer started getting flaky a few hundred miles ago. Since I have owned the car, it has done the common double shift coming out of first gear. It can be driven fine as is as I have been doing the past 4 years, but think the issue is in the VCV valve..small plastic part that controls the amount of vacuum going to trans. If you buy the car, I will give you the diagram and step by step instructions on how I built the WVO system. For sale separately is the filtering equipment, pumps, etc that I use to filter my oil. I have some spare WVO filters as well. Deposit due within 24 hours and remainder due in 7 days. Given the choice between a well cared for 240D or a 300D that has been neglected, take the well cared for car. You´ll never be happy with the acceleration - but it will be a far better deal. If you can hold out for a well cared for 300D, SD or TD - do so. I think the 240D puts out 60 hp, the non-turbo 300D does 80 hp - and the turbo models do 120 hp. That´s a huge difference when you are trying to merge into traffic. There are no computers or sensors. Combustion occurs in a ´pre-combustion´ chamber off the side of the main cylinder (there are four of them). This helps prevent carbonization of the piston rings in the cylinders since unspent fuel is carbonized in the pre-combustion chamber instead of in the cylinder. This is very important for diesel engines that are run on vegetable oil. It is common for veggie fuel to enter the combustion chamber at lower than optimal temperature which causes the fuel to be sprayed in a less than optimal pattern. This causes some of the fuel to carbonize on the walls of the combustion chamber. In modern diesel engines, fuel is injected directly into the cylinder. Therefore, the carbonization occurs on the head of the piston and eventually on the walls of the cylinders. This causes carbonization on the piston rings which eventually fouls them causing breakage and a dead engine. A later model 240D (80s) can turn out about 70 hp if it´s taken care of. Also, I don´t think Mercedes made any manual trans. turbos that I know of, but there are some non-turbo stick shifts around. How long? I have no idea since I have no personal experience. I would like to try it IF I have an engine that is disposable but I do not have one at the moment. The W124 diesel´s have a similar injection pump as the W123, which has one of the toughest pump for WVO since it is lubricated by engine oil, which helps to heat the VO in the IP. How different are the injectors and pre-combustion chambers in W123 & W124? On the W123, the injector spray pattern is very narrow and sprays at the hot ball in the pre-combustion chamber and that helps to burn the VO. That may be a reason (I have no prove, however) that it works so well with VO.
